THE SHARKSCURRIE CUP CHAMPIONS
The Sharks won the Currie Cup in 2008, breaking a 12 year drought. They had a golden era in the 1990's, playing in 8 Currie Cup finals between 1990 and 2001. Their style of play was seen by many as being one-dimensional, but it was very effective, resulting in 4 Currie Cup wins, between 1990 and 1996. Ian McIntosh initiated it all by using big, strong forwards and quick individualistic backs. In 1990 Craig Jamieson became the first Natal captain to lift the Currie Cup as winner. What made it even more special is the fact that Natal celebrated their centenary year. Botha was quoted after the 1990 clash: ‘It was a fluke’. Natal will take another 100 years to win the Currie Cup again. In 1992 Wahl Bartmann's team proofed Naas Botha wrong , when they beat Transvaal in a hard-fought battle at Ellispark. In 1995 and 1996 Natal was lead by Gary Teichmann to win consecutive titles. To date the he remains the only Natal / Sharks captain to win more than one Currie Cup title. The frames are all individually signed by the 4 captains. The limited edition of 300 frames, includes a 24 carats gold-plated miniature Currie Cup trophy fitted with engraved plaques off all the teams who have won the Currie Cup since 1974.
